Undeserving of Grace

Each day, when Jason comes home from farm, I ask him how his day went. Often he has a story. I always tell him, to please write a blog about these Stories! But he feels awkward about it. So I want to share one of his stories that happened last week.

It is not a far distance from the paved road to the farm . The Sandy terrain makes it take long though. There are two dry river beds that make it very difficult, even when in four wheel drive. Vehicles should only be on this road with four wheel drive but there are times that people try to attempt to take this road in only two wheel drive. Last week Jason found a truck stuck in the dry riverbed that had camped out there all night long. The people had tried to dig and then drive, and then dig and then drive making a huge hole to completely bury the back end further down in the ground. When Jason was about to pass, a Somali asked him to pull the vehicle out. Jason was driving the farm pickup truck that barely has the strength to drive through the sand itself. Jason explained that he didn't want to burn the clutch and that it he wouldn't be able to pull out the truck with his vehicle. The Somali started getting in Jason's face and saying F*** you. This was very surprising an offensive to hear. Jason instinctively wants to react when any person comes across aggressively. That is in his nature. But he tried to explain again that the vehicle he was driving wasn't strong enough but he could come back with the tractor at a farm. The Somali responded, "F*** you and F*** your tractor!"

So Jason left and proceeded to the farm. The flesh is saying, what an undeserving man. The spirit says, show the love of Jesus.
The flesh says to punch a man in the face who talks like that.
The spirit says I am undeserving of God’s saving grace.

At the farm Jason went to start up the tractor, and the battery was dead. Easy way out Right? No. We are here for the least of these. What we do for the least is what we do for Jesus. Jason hooked up the pick up to jump start the tractor. He told the guys on the farm what he was going to do. They asked Jason why would he help them just leave them there, those people are bad. But this is the very reason we are here in Kenya. To show the love of Jesus to those that do not know Him. Two farm workers went along with Jason to help.

When he returned to the spot where the truck was stuck, the Somali walked further down the dry riverbed be away. The tractor was able to pull it out. The man stayed away. Never came to apologize or say thank you.

We are all undeserving of forgiveness and yet God freely gives it to us when we ask. Our sin requires death, but Jesus's blood that was she'd gives us life. In the heat of the moment it is hard to remember these things. The flesh is so ready to come out. I am thankful for the Holy Spirit to direct and lead Jason.

Samara and Charis ride along as Jason plows.

I always think that the sky looks so much bigger on the farm.

Charis switches turns with Nevaeh.

I've been struck recently by Paul's remarkable ability to seize opportunities to gain an audience for the Truth, & this post dovetails perfectly with this. I have, begun to ask God to help me keep this as the lens I view life through no matter what.
