| The current home for one of the farm workers. |
When Jason, Righteous and I (Nevaeh was 34weeks in my belly) moved to Kenya June 2008 we had the immediate plan to join as staff with a Christian organization that was already very much established. The Director of this organization was Jason's supervisor over his internship and they were best buds. We served alongside LMK for two years before we moved onto to other ministry opportunities.
Immediately following Tim Freeman told us there was a donor who wanted to invest in an area like ours to start a farm, and ask if we were willing to take up this offer? Knowing absolutely nothing about farming, and after prayer Jason agreed.

Maintaining the farm has provided jobs for 3 different unreached tribes. This area is a very poor community and many live in huts. The careers available are Sheperds, burning and selling charcoal, and selling goat or camels milk. Girls have FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) done under the age 10. Females are often arranged to be married around 14-16 years old and from that point on baby after baby is born reaching to high numbers in each household. Multiple wives are allowed in the religion. It is fairly common for a husband to beat his wife. To say that is pretty miserable for a female to grow up in the place is putting it lightly, but men do not have high ambitions in life or much to look forward to either.
With all this depravity and darkness we first wonder how do we even begin to make a positive difference into all these traditions that have been going on for centuries? How can we get a doorway in to start relationships and build the trust in order to deliver the gospel which will rescue and bring freedom? The farm was the entry point for our family. It provided the platform for Jason to be out in the village everyday with out the suspicious question of "What are you doing out here?"
We have come to fully believe in discipling people towards salvation, instead of the other way around. Jason does this, with Amos, everyday by harvesting next to the guys, eating lunch with them and discussing all the different challenges of life. He listens to what their religion says and then will often get to share His faith. Throughout the years we have witnessed God at work, putting in some of the fruits of the spirits into their hearts and a change happening.
Two weeks ago there was evidence God at work in their lives when they all came to fill in mud walls of 2 houses, with the rest of our team. Normally this would only be done if they were to get paid. But each one sacrificed their day off to serve and it was so beautiful . It was a beautiful thing to see people from 3 different nations , 2 different religions and 6 different tribes come together to help build two house for the coworker who had become family. God is at work in their hearts building unity and teaching them about love and selflessness as their hearts continue to soften the seeds sown in Christ will grow into salvation that will have deep and strong roots!
