Every single Thanksgiving has been spent with Bethany team members, since we have lived in Kenya. We have always had Turkey (this year we had 2) and all the fixings ( we had 10 pies and 2 birthday cakes besides green bean casserole, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole). What a busy day it is peeling and cutting veggies and constantly putting dishes in and out of the oven, but my favorite part about it all is being with everyone. We exchange stories about all that is happening in life while all the many missionary kids play from sun up to sun down.
Then on Friday we headed to the farm for some meetings. We were able to worship together, have a devotional, and hear about what everybody is up to in the different locations that they serve at. We were able to pray for one another as some of the farm guys watched all that was taking place. I am sure they really wondered what was happening, and I hope Jason or Amos gets a chance to explain what the body of Christ is all about. It does make our faith so much different from theirs, the fact that we can spur one another on and also lift up our prayer requests to a loving Father who deeply cares for us. While all this was happening there was a kids program running thanks to the fabulous interns and Ch family members. The children participated in a scavenger hunt, did crafts, games, and watched the Thanksgiving story get acted out.
On Saturday we met together again, at our house. We all took a personality test and read all the information that goes along with it as well as what famous person has the same personality. I am an Enthusiast, then Helper, and last Challenger. Jason is a Challenger, then Reformer and Achiever. Of course not everything is exactly to the t but it gives insight to us as a team on how we can encourage and work together more effectively with everyone using their strengths. Finally we ended the meeting figuring out our vision and mission statement for Bethany Kenya. This may sound like a simple exercise but it is more like brainstorming on steroids. We had to ask ourselves what is the final result of what we want to see in Kenya. We are all missionaries so what is the end game? Then once that was figured out we had to write down all that needs to happen to get to the end. We had to rearrange wording and remove words thst were redundant but finally we got it And the amazing part is it fits with what the Lord is doing in Nairobi, Mombasa as well as gtown.

What a wonderful post! Such a good example of the Truth of life here on earth - all the joy is mixed up with all the work. 😉
