Goodbyes are dreadful

Quick crazy story before I write about having to say goodbye to the interns who have just spent the last 16 months being apart of lives and finding a place in our hearts. Four nights ago Jason came across a large rat in our storage room off of our kitchen. He began to search around for something to kill the rat because there was no way that rat was getting out alive. Without thinking Jason stepped on its tail with his bare foot. Immediatley the rat bit him. Jason had an bar fight experiance and broke a coke bottle on the wall and stabbed that rat to death. The next morning he went to the doctor to get a rabies shot and after requesting the different injections we would get in the States the doctors laughed at him and said "This is Africa". He was able to find a five course injection he has started to take which I am so grateful for. There are times we have to live by faith being out here and I learn a lot and grow from that but I praise God for the modern conviences of medicine when it is available.

In about 2 weeks we will be in Nairobi to officially say goodbyes to our second intake of Bethany Interns. What do I even begin to say. Jason has been praying to have a special Word from the Lord for each one and keeps seeking God for that. Jason is already to list many blessings that each one has made an impact on us and the people around us but doesn't want his words to come from himself. Each intern is leaving completely different from when they first arrived. They come wanting to do many things to change the world to be a better place and are learn quickly it doesn't work that way and we cannot be gods to people and "fix"them and their problems. We can show Jesus to them in our lives. This team is overall very sarcastic (minus 2) and started out not knowing each other at all. They discovered about halfway thru internship that they had a trust issue within their team and all made an effort to allow God to change them and to be "inconvienced" whether it be out and around town or even inside their homes with one another. There are so many memories of us laughing together. We have had many theme parties including a pirate murder mystery, Lord of the Rings birthday party, Hat party, Coffee house party, movie nights and lots of game nights. Almost all of them has thought of quitting and going back to America at some point but they all have persevered through the many challeneges ( amoebas, malaria, no electricity at times, over 115 degrees, no washing machine or dryers, no hot water, no clean water, stares from locals wherever you go, stolen property, long road trips on horrible roads, etc.). As they are nearing the end and have to ask the "what comes next?" my prayer is that they will not worry and become anxious about the next part of their journey they will be entering into. God has preparing them to live their lives by allowing God to be glorified in whatever they do. I am not looking forward to saying goodbye. I look foward to hearing what they will go on to do do next for the Kingdom.

Was Jason's previous bar fight with a rat? He seems to have the technique down pat.
