Helping schools

Last November we were able to build 34 desks for a muslim school in our area with a Stem team that came for a week. Recently Rebecca went to visit the school and see what other possibilities there is to help. We sat down to talk to the owner of the school and Head teacher, who are both women in leadership roles so cool for this area. They shared that a committee of school inspectors came to their school at the end of January and had so much negative reports about the school infrastructure and lack of supplies. The owner said the only thing that essentially "saved their school" was the new desks. There were plenty of desks for the first three classrooms but only enough for the back wall for the fourth classroom but still to hear this strong statement it hit me how much the value of building these desks were. I cannot believe these high schoolers use to be able to learn just sitting on the ground on the mat from 7am-5pm everyday. I take for granted so much of my own upbringing being in school and there was everything I needed starting from a pencil and paper to use down to fully furnished classrooms filled with colorful charts and posters.
Rebecca took notes of all the things the inspectors said was needed to run the school and we are going to see how many the Lord will allow us to help out. Right now we are going to try to fund blackboards for each classroom and repaint all the walls. Repainting the walls entails a lot more than just a brush and paint because there are papers glued to the walls very thickly. It is going to take a lot of time scraping. We are only able to do this on weekends because the students are in class throughout the week. It is exciting to continue the relationship we have already established instead of just doing a nice deed once. I hope to return again and again because there will always be more to do.
