On Thursday, the women helped out at the medical clinic. Their church payed for all the medicines and gas needed to get to this village. Some members of the team collected money and recorded the name, weight, blood pressure, and temperature of the patients. Bonnie, who is a nurse in WI, gave injections to those who needed it. We were able to pass out foam visors with foam stickers to decorate the hats to the children as well as do face paint on the kids hands and arms. There was a 2 month old baby who came in and the mother reported the baby was up all night crying. Rose, the Kenyan nurse who works the clinic, removed a live worm from the pinkie toe of the baby.It was the larvae of a African Bot fly. Poor little thing.
We were able to take breaks to see what the men were doing. There was a lot of noise with two generators they were using. They were busy welding and movable trellis system for vine tomatoes and melons or any other plant that needs to be raised. They had made enough trellis system to cover 12 beds of about 50 feet in length. They also made a sliding door for the goat house using some great innovations. And to top it all off they made 2 ladders one for the water tower and one for the drip irrigation tower. What a blessing for our farm!
The following day we were able to plan a Health Seminar for the village. Some of the topics included pre-natal care, general hygiene, breast feeding, family planning, and nutrition. There was a great turn out. We didn't get to get a head count but there was well over 40 women and children. At the end Melissa was able to give a personal testimony of having her heart and her mind healed. Every Thursday many people get treated for physical sickness, but there is an emotional sickness that is never talked about that can really cause a lot of damage. Melissa opened up the doors for there to be communication on this down the road. Our goal is to have these "Health talks" more often and be able to discuss deeper issues as the people feel comfortable. We are so grateful for the Green Bay team coming to minister here.
