Another Ramadan month has come and gone. We flew to Mombasa right in the middle of it for a retreat with the interns. When we were waiting for our flight I grabbed one of these timetables in the picture above that tells what time the sun came up each morning and thus the fasting begins and also what time the sun would set each day and fasting ended. The time changes by a few minutes depending on where you live.
We stayed at a beautiful home for the retreat right off of the Indian Ocean. The house provided a chef for all our meals and two ladies that spoiled us by cleaning our rooms each day and doing our laundry. The chef was a Muslim and therefore wasn't eating or drinking the entire time while cooking for us. Righteous would go into the kitchen to talk to him and one evening brought her Bible to share about what scriptures said. She is quite the little evangelists and is more bold than I am. After her conversation with the chef it challenged her to know God more and want to read the Bible more to understand better.
Last Saturday was Eid sometimes spelled Idd. We got to drive around gtown and see everyone's smiling faces with their new clothes they had bought at the market. There were many young men wearing a bright red shirt that had big yellow pineapples on it. There were lots of small photo booths along the side of the road with lines of people waiting to capture a picture of them with their friends. We have a huge playground across from the first gas station (known as petrol stations here) right as you enter town. It has a shaded roof but it is always closed. Not last Saturday. It was packed full of laughing children. We are so thankful that Ramadan was peaceful despite of a threat that something might happen during it. Our prayer throughout that time was that God would reveal His truth while those were fasting and seeking Allah. Although this has come to an end the prayer remains the same. As I prepare to go visit some of my neighbors today I ask God to allow me to see them through His eyes and to speak through me.
