Flooding in Kenya.

This was taken the day Marissa and Sam arrived (by boat!)

The recent news has been all about the torrential rainfall in Kenya causing major flooding.  On Friday, the Kenya President called for a public holiday to honor the 267 lives that were taken by the floods. Around the country around 380,000 homes have been demolished causing so much loss. Gtown is once again an island because the road is cut off from any vehicles driving in or out. This time around boats have been brought that used to ferry tourist on Lake Naivasha 250 miles away. These boats have been sufficiently bringing fresh vegetables in each day so that they are available although the prices have jumped sky high.  We recently added Sam and Marissa to our team and they arrived by boat with all their luggage. We praise God for bringing more workers to the harvest.

Kenya schools were supposed to open up 2 weeks ago but have been postponed because of the challenges of traveling to school and damage the rains have done in shools. Some schools are even being used as temporary housing for those who are Displaced and in some schools there is no road access to get to them. In our town the ACK (Anglican Church) school made an agreement with another Christian School (ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ) to receive and teach eachothers students who are on the opposite sides of the river and cannot get to their school. We are so encouraged of the beautiful example of the body of Christ stepping in to help one another during this difficult time.

This past Friday the young believers from the farm, as well as Amos, took the boats across to come for Bible study. There of course is a risk- as last month a bost capsized and 7 bodies have been found- the boat was severely overloaded(w almost 50 people in a boat made for 16 max) and no one was wearing life jackets. Since then authorities have put restrictions limiting the amount of passengers and requiring everyone wear a life jacket. Could you pray for people to turn to God with all that is going on, repent and be saved? Can you be praying God would be the provider and comforter to those suffering loss? Could you pray that believers would step up in areas they can meet a need and represent Jesus? We are thankful for your partnership which allows us to be here. I have included pictures from these past few weeks so you can have a look into what we have been up to while there is no road access in or out of Gtown.

Marissa is reading the directions to teach us how to play the Happy Salmon game for Samara's 12th birthday.

Each day we have been driving around town looking to find eggs and fresh vegetables.

There is only a little frozen chicken left to buy in town but most other food items are available- although there is a hefty price to pay for them.

Samara and her Dad posing for a pic at the grocery store.

Playing some Scrabble with Ashley. (Was my Mom's favorite game)

Paul working out with Nevaeh doing "the wall sit".

When we lose electricity at night we sit outside in the fresh air. I am chatting away with Marissa.

Homeschooling continues. Samara has been working on percentages in Math.

Charis is reading about dinosaurs in Science, while Jason works on an assignmentfor his Masters.

Neevaeh and I just finished reading The Screwtape letters by C.S. Lewis.

The girls have been taking turns cooking all on their own each week. I'm holding up Nevaeh's tuna pasta dish.

I have wondered how you may be affected by the flooding. I have prayed as you asked, & for your provision. XO

A couple weeks late but I’ve wondered too how the rains and flooding affected you. I heard the road from Nairobi had been cut off. Let’s connect.
